La Princesa de Éboli


Ana de Mendoza de la Cerda, princesa de Éboli
Fue una de las mujeres de más talento de su época, y aunque perdió un ojo a causa de un
entrenamiento de esgrima, se la estimaba como una de las damas más hermosas de la corte española.
Entre las teorías que se barajan sobre la pérdida de su ojo derecho, la más respaldada es la que
asegura que la princesa fue dañada por la punta de un florete manejado por un paje durante su
infancia. Pero este dato no es claro, quizá no fuese tuerta sino bizca, aunque hay pocos datos
que mencionen dicho defecto físico. En cualquier caso, su defecto no restaba belleza a su rostro;
su carácter altivo y su amor por el lujo se convirtieron en su mejor etiqueta de presentación,
y ejerció una gran influencia en la corte.
